Shawn Spears, better known by his WWE ring name Tye Dillinger, has officially signed with AEW.

Spears, who worked with WWE from 2006-2019, is set to appear at AEW’s upcoming inaugural Double Or Nothing pay-per-view that takes place on May 25 in Las Vegas.

During a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, The Perfect Ten provided his take on signing with AEW.

“I’m coming to AEW because I believe in what they are doing. I believe in providing an alternative for fans, and I really believe that the audience has wanted an alternative for quite some time.”

Spears also noted that it’s all about proving himself in the new promotion.

“This is now the platform to give people exactly what they want, and I am really looking forward to proving myself in AEW.”

WWE subjected Spears to a 90-day non-compete clause after his release that is set to expire less than 48 hours prior to Double Or Nothing.

While addressing the immediate future of his career, Spears gave a very “driven” response.

“My career has had its ups and downs, but I took the reins in the past few months. Now I plan on taking a very specific, driven direction. And what better time than this Saturday at Double or Nothing to prove that to the world?”

Spears’ wife, Peyton Royce is currently enjoying her reign as WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion (with Billie Kay). He is also set to launch his Flatbacks wrestling school with Tyler Breeze, yet another full-time Superstar in WWE.

The newest AEW signee went on to share his perspective on AEW while making it known that he’s been friends with Co-Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes for “a very long time.”

“I’m able to bring a great deal of experience to a company that is looking to build young talent, which is vital to the future of professional wrestling. I’ve known Cody [Rhodes] for a very long time, and in terms of this endeavor, there are no better four guys than Cody, The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega that I would trust to put this together. AEW is history-making. When the chance presented itself to be a part of something so groundbreaking, I wasn’t going to wait around any longer.”
