WWE Royal Rumble is here, and the company is readying itself for the WrestleMania season. Royal Rumble event is one of the most iconic matchups in professional wrestling, and the winners of those matches get to be a part of history.
Brock Lesnar and Bray Wyatt are currently the top champions of RAW and SmackDown respectively, and it is highly unlikely to see either of them drop their titles anytime before WrestleMania 36.
Paul Heyman has announced that Lesnar entering the Men’s Rumble match at #1 position and Wyatt is currently embroiled in a highly entertaining rivalry with Daniel Bryan.
We look at the possible surprises that could happen at WWE Royal Rumble 2020
10. Cain Velasquez Eliminates Brock Lesnar
Cain Velasquez made a shocking debut in WWE during SmackDown’s first-ever night on FOX programming. He immediately went after his long-time nemesis Brock Lesnar, which led to a matchup between the two former UFC stalwarts at Crown Jewel.
In a hilariously bad encounter, Velasquez lost the match, and Lesnar took ‘revenge’ for the defeat at the hands of Velasquez all those years ago in UFC. However, a feud as big as this couldn’t end with just a three-minute matchup on a PPV which isn’t considered canon most of the time.
It was rumored that WWE has booked Velasquez for the Rumble event, and he could be a surprise entry into the matchup. Velasquez winning the Rumble will surely bring in more audiences due to the cross-brand phenomenon, as he is still pretty popular in the MMA circles.
9. Nia Jax Returns
Nia Jax has been out of action since WrestleMania 35, where she tore both her ACL’s putting her on the sidelines away from the WWE. As per the latest rumors, the former RAW Women’s Champion is showing signs of match fitness again and appears to be getting ready to get back into a WWE ring.
Jax created history at last year’s Royal Rumble where she became the first person to enter both Women’s and Men’s Royal Rumble on the same night. She also holds the record of most eliminations in Women’s Rumble matches, with 7 eliminations to her name.
Jax’s ‘nose-breaking’ punch before Survivor Series 2018 became a turning point for Becky Lynch and it would make a good storyline if The Unstoppable Force wins the Rumble and target the RAW title.
8. Velveteen Dream Wins Men’s Rumble Match
One of the biggest prospects in WWE currently, Velveteen Dream has taken the yellow brand by storm in the last few years. The Dream has missed most of the second half of 2019 due to injuries, and is in line to make a return to WWE soon.
A first-ever appearance at the Rumble will be perfect for the outlandish personality, who is yet to put a foot wrong in the company.
7. Keith Lee Enters Men’s Rumble Match and Reaches Final 3
Lee was one of the biggest winners from the Survivor Series event, where he pinned Seth Rollins and almost took down the Big Dog Roman Reigns. Lee has become a top guy in NXT in a matter of few months, and WWE is reportedly high on the superstar.
Lee is most likely to make a surprise entrance and last till the final 3 of the Rumble match. A good performance in the Rumble will help WWE to establish a top star in the singles division.
6. Edge Returns
Edge is set to return to the ring if rumors are to believed. Although Edge has denied the reports of him putting pen to the paper, the signs of him stepping foot into the ring are quite clear. Edge left his podcast a few months ago, around the same time the rumors of him returning first started.
Edge returning for the Rumble event will be one of the most iconic moments in WWE history. Edge retired almost a decade ago due to recurrent neck injuries, and a return for the Rated R Superstar has to translate in a victory.
Edge taking on Bray Wyatt would be a brilliant storyline, as Wyatt has shown great tendency to attack legends in the past as well.
Edge has won the Rumble event in the past, and even then, it was an unexpected return at #29 to win the event. Could the Hall of Famer rewind the clock and recreate the moment exactly a decade later? Only time will tell.
5. Roman Reigns Wins Men’s Rumble Match
There isn’t a Royal Rumble without rumors of Mr. Royal Rumble himself, Roman Reigns being among the front-runners for the win. He had the most eliminations in 2014, won the event in 2015, finished in the top three of 2016, 2017 and 2018, and had to miss last year’s event due to his battle with leukemia.
Once again, Roman Reigns is the number one favorite to win the Rumble. After staying away from the title scene of any kind for over a year, WWE is ready to push the Big Dog into his favored position once again, and the Rumble is expected to be the start of yet another foray into the main-event for the Samoan.
Roman Reigns is receiving great reactions from the crowd each week, and it will be interesting to see if he can keep it up after the Rumble win and eventual dethroning of the Fiend. The fans turned on him after the 2015 victory, and the story could be different five years later.
4. CM Punk Returns
The Cult of Personality made his return to WWE programming a few months ago, and ever since then a possible return to the ring has been brought up. Punk has denied reports of him returning to the ring, but it’s a never-say-never situation for the former WWE Champion.
Could we see the iconic music hit at the Royal Rumble? Only time will tell.
3. Ronda Rousey Returns
The Women’s Division hasn’t been the same ever since Ronda Rousey left the company on a hiatus last year. Rousey carried the division for a year, and was part of the historic Women’s Main Event at Wrestlemania.
Rousey returning to capture the Rumble and facing her arch-nemesis, Becky Lynch, at Wrestlemania will be a memorable moment.
2. Shayna Baszler Wins Women’s Rumble Match With An Assist From Rousey
Shayna Baszler, the former NXT Champion, recently lost her championship and ever since, has been heavily rumored for a move to the main roster. Baszler, who main-evented Survivor Series alongside the current champions of the main roster, Bayley and Becky Lynch, is rumored to join the Rumble lineup and win the whole thing with some help from the Four Horsewomen partner Ronda Rousey.
Baszler vs Becky for WrestleMania is apparently in the works and the Queen of Spades will surely be a deserving winner of third-ever Women’s Royal Rumble.
1. The Fiend Enters Men’s Rumble Match & Eliminates Roman Reigns
WWE Champion Brock Lesnar announced his entry into the Rumble in a shocking chain of events, which will see him start out the iconic match at #1. However, if rumors are to be believed, the other top champion of WWE, Bray Wyatt, will also be making an appearance at the Rumble to eliminate his rumored opponent for WrestleMania, Roman Reigns.
Reigns is heavily favored to win the Rumble and go on to face the currently undefeated Fiend, but it seems like the Fiend could take out the Big Dog and start their rivalry in a different way altogether on the Road to WrestleMania 36.
