WWE SummerSlam has been the biggest Pay-Per-View event of the summer for more than a decade now. With WWE currently facing tough competition from rival promotions, it is evident that CEO Vince McMahon is looking to fire on all cylinders to ensure that their PPV is not dethroned by any other event happening at that time. This year, SummerSlam will air live from the Barclays Center in New York on August 19, 2018 and WWE plans to put on the best show it has in recent years in summer.

Having announced dual branded Pay-Per-Views for a couple of months now, it is likely that both Monday Night RAW and SmackDown Live will have some of the most intense matches on the card. SummerSlam has always been an event of heartbreaks, shocking turns, celebrations, returns and this year will be no exception to the thumb rule. With the temperature soaring this summer, let’s take a look at the following 10 backstage rumors that are currently doing the rounds in WWE.

Samoa Joe missed WrestleMania 34 while recovering from injury and since his return on Monday Night RAW, Joe has gained a lot of momentum which all began by interrupting Roman Reigns and destroying him on the microphone on the night after WrestleMania 35. The promos from Joe calling out Reigns have taken his game to a completely different level and with his move to SmackDown Live in the recent Superstar Shakeup, Joe is now gearing up for a main event run. As of the moment, Joe appears to be the selected heel to take down Styles or Nakamura in a dream match to be crowned the WWE Champion. Feuds with former WWE Champions like Daniel Bryan and Jeff Hardy would make Joe the ideal heel champion on the blue brand.
