5 Superstars Who Defeated Roman Reigns Clean

Roman Reigns is one of the biggest superstars WWE has produced in the last ten years. He was positioned as the next John Cena, to become the face of the company. Roman Reigns main-evented four WrestleManias in a row, which is a feat surpassed only by the immortal Hulk Hogan.

Roman Reigns has carved a Hall of Fame career for himself following his run with the Shield and his singles run in WWE. He underwent a superhuman recovery from leukemia and returned to the ring in under six months.

Roman Reigns is arguably the biggest star in WWE currently, and WWE have done all they could to make sure Reigns is presented as a big deal to the WWE audiences. Very few superstars have been able to take down the Big Dog in his singles WWE career.

Roman Reigns has received a “superhuman” push ever since the Shield broke up in 2014. During his time with Shield as well, Roman Reigns was on the losing side quite rarely. He was presented as the dominant force of nature and that gimmick carried on during his singles run as well.

We look at five superstars who can boast of defeating Reigns clean in the ring.

5. Brock Lesnar

Is this a surprise?

Brock Lesnar defeated the likes of Rock, Hulk Hogan, and Goldberg in his very first year in WWE. He went on to end Undertaker’s legendary streak at WrestleMania 30, and defeated John Cena in a never seen before manner at SummerSlam 2014.

Brock Lesnar has defeated Roman Reigns quite a few times in his quest for the Universal title, but the biggest blow came during WrestleMania main-event last year. Nobody predicted a win for Lesnar, but The Beast came out on top to retain his title against Reigns.

Lesnar also defeated Reigns at SummerSlam in 2017, in a match that featured Samoa Joe and Braun Strowman as well.

Roman Reigns defeated The Beast to exact revenge at SummerSlam last August, and finally captured the WWE Universal Championship, which he had to sadly forfeit few weeks later.

4. Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins is one of the few superstars who has not faced the wrath of The Big Dog. Roman Reigns might have taken down Brock Lesnar, Undertaker and John Cena but he is yet to overcome his former Shield brother Seth Rollins.

Seth Rollins attacked his brothers-in-arms, Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose, with a chair back in 2014. He was touted to be the most successful of all the three superstars in the Shield, and if his achievements in the last five years are to go by, he has definitely lived up to the hype!

Seth Rollins first defeated Roman Reigns in the main-event of WrestleMania 31, where he cashed in his Money in the Bank contract during a match between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns. Rollins again went on to defeat Reigns clean at MITB 2016 for the WWE Championship, before Ambrose cashed in his contract against Rollins.

Seth Rollins defeated Roman Reigns yet again in 2018, when he pinned The Big Dog during a gauntlet match. Rollins also defeated John Cena in the same match, becoming one of the few superstars to defeat Cena and Reigns clean, in the same night!

The current Universal Champion Seth Rollins is currently positioned as the face of the company, with Rollins defending not just his Universal Championship, but also coming to the rescue of his company on various social platforms!

If Roman Reigns were to ever turn heel, a heel Reigns versus babyface Rollins for the Universal Championship could be an iconic rivalry.

3. Bobby Lashley

Bobby Lashley surprisingly defeated Roman Reigns at Extreme Rules in July last year. He lost to Reigns the very next night on RAW, but still holds a clean pinfall victory over The Big Dog.

Bobby Lashley’s puzzling booking has disappointed the fans ever since he returned to WWE in April 2018, but the victory over Reigns remains a major addition in his CV.

Lashley was touted as the next big thing ever since he debuted in 2006, but sadly has fallen prey to Vince McMahon’s baffling treatment of the big man.

The Almighty Bobby Lashley was put into a stable with Drew McIntyre and Baron Corbin for the better part of 2018, and his victory against Roman Reigns was forgotten rather quickly.

Bobby Lashley was the only superstar to defeat Roman Reigns clean in 2018 apart from the Beast Incarnate, Brock Lesnar.

2. Braun Strowman

Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman had one of the most iconic rivalries in WWE throughout 2017. WWE built up two mega-money superstars and gave them an entertaining rivalry which featured stuff like ambulance flipping!

Braun Strowman lost to Roman Reigns at Fastlane 2017, which was his first ever pinfall loss in WWE. Strowman defeated Reigns clean at Payback later that year, and once again defeated him in an ambulance match at Great Balls of Fire.

Strowman remains one of the few superstars who was presented as a level competition for Roman Reigns. Strowman became one of the most beloved superstars during his feud with Reigns, and eventually turned babyface due to his vast popularity.

Strowman has still not won a singles championship in over five years with the company. Hopefully he captures a title soon, and reaches the position he was once destined for.

1. Finn Balor

Definitely the most surprising name on this list, Finn Balor, defeated Roman Reigns on his very first night in WWE. Balor, in his second match on the main roster, defeated Reigns clean to qualify for the Universal Championship match-up against Seth Rollins at SummerSlam 2016.

Balor was presented as a major superstar on his very first night, and seemed destined for great things in WWE. He won the Universal Championship, defeating Seth Rollins, but had to relinquish the championship the very next day.

Finn Balor, similar to Braun Strowman and Bobby Lashley, could never utilize the momentum he gained after defeating the Big Dog. Finn Balor is currently the Intercontinental Champion, and could very well cross paths with the Big Dog once again!
