5 Wrestling Couples Who Work For Rival Promotions

It’s common to see wrestlers getting along with other wrestlers and often, they form a relationship too. Although they prefer to be together for as long as they can, it isn’t possible at all times. There are often times when one might get a contract from WWE, while the other joins another wrestling promotion.

While their relationship is important to them, having financial stability is also necessary. This is why most wrestlers accept these types of offers even if it means they won’t be able to see their significant others regularly.

We’ve seen multiple instances when a couple was separated by the barrier of two different companies, turning them into rivals automatically. In this article, we’ll look at 5 such wrestling couples who work on different promotions.

5. Adam Cole and Britt Baker

The current and longest reigning NXT Champion Adam Cole impresses the world with charisma and wrestling abilities. His girlfriend, Britt Baker, is currently signed to All Elite Wrestling (AEW) which is why the couple doesn’t get to spend a lot of time together.

A few months ago, WWE showed Baker on live television during NXT Takeover: Wargames 2019 when Tommaso Ciampa dropped Cole on to a table. The cameras turned around to display some shocked faces and coincidentally, it included Baker’s reaction too.

Fans are well aware of their relationship which started way before they received contacts from WWE and AEW respectively. Because Cole is an integral part of NXT programming and Baker just signed to All Elite, we don’t see a possibility of the couple reuniting on live television.

4. Cedric Alexander and Big Swole

Cedric Alexander is having a hard time in WWE. Those who watched 205 Live are fans of his work but it is safe to say that Vince McMahon doesn’t think the same. McMahon had an opportunity to push Alexander on Monday Night RAW, but he chose not to.

Recently, Justin Myles (now ACH) left WWE and returned to the independent circuit. Well, he seems to be working hard to “save” Swole’s husband from god-knows-what. One could say that ACH is referring to Vince specifically because he’s the one who gives orders in WWE.

If Alexander leaves WWE soon, he could join Swole in AEW. He’s a great wrestler and Tony Khan and Co. will probably hand him a contract without a second thought. Even though Alexander is getting some screentime now after teaming up with Ricochet on Raw, Vince wants to “bury” his character and he’ll try his best to make us forget about him before he leaves WWE.

3. Ruby Riott and Jake Something

Since returning to WWE television after staying on the sidelines for months, Ruby Riott failed to make a splash. Although her return was perfectly planned (attacking Liv Morgan after an emotional reunion), WWE didn’t capitalize.

Riott worked the main-event of Elimination Chamber to earn herself a RAW Women’s Championship match against Becky Lynch. She didn’t win as Shayna Baszler dominated throughout the entire match.

The kind of character Riott plays on-screen can trick someone into believing that she doesn’t get along with anyone. But this isn’t true.

She’s currently dating Impact Wrestling superstar Jack Something and they seem to be a happy couple. For most of you, Jack is an unknown name. That’s because he hasn’t appeared on WWE and only a small portion of wrestling fans tune in to watch Impact. There he works as one-half of The Deaners along with his partner, Cody Deaner.

2. Shawn Spears and Peyton Royce

Shawn Spears made a huge impact when he made his AEW debut during Double or Nothing pay-per-view. Since then, he’s had some great moments in the company. He’s a heel and considering just how much heat he receives from the crowd, it’s safe to say that he’s mastered his role.

Spears’ wife, Peyton Royce, is a former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion which she won as part of The IIconics. WWE creative team hasn’t featured her on television for a long time. Royce returned to Monday Night Raw this week along with Billie Kay back and immediately entered into a feud with Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross.

Spears (fka Tye Dillinger in WWE) got into a relationship with Royce several years ago, even before they landed jobs in WWE. They married last year and are now enjoying their time quarantined together.

1. Jon Moxley and Renee Young

Yes, Renee Young isn’t a wrestler. But you know she has to be on this list. After all, she’s the wife of AEW World Heavyweight Champion, Jon Moxley.

Moxley made headlines when he announced his departure from WWE. He was mad over WWE for almost destroying his career during his feud with Seth Rollins. Young supported her husband all throughout his transition from a WWE superstar to AEW Champion.

The couple started dating in 2013 and didn’t go public with their relationship until 2015. They walked down the aisle in 2017.

They are one of the most-liked characters in Vince McMahon’s company and even won the “favorite WWE couple” award once. Moxley seems to be happy for the first time in his wrestling career since leaving WWE as AEW allows him to do almost everything Vince didn’t.

A few weeks ago, Moxley (with his dog in his hand) surprised his fans when he appeared during a live stream of WWE Backstage. It was a short cameo appearance but still satisfied the viewers watching it.
