<p>2018 happened to be an odd year in WWE. It wasn’t completely good or bad but it still had some landmark moments and some moments that people are going to look back at for a long period of time. A general theme of the year was some unexpected and emotional moments and on that note here is the first one.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Paige Retires From In-Ring Competition </strong></h2>

<p>This, kind of set the tone for the rest of the year. This was one of the many high-profile retirements of the year. It was especially sad as this was finally the year where the <em>women’s revolution</em> that was started by <strong>Paige</strong> had some of its biggest moments and she could not be a part of it.<br></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Ronda Rousey Makes An Impressive In-Ring Debut</strong></h2>

<p>While fans were expecting to see <strong>Rousey</strong> make her WWE debut, especially after being introduced in the most badass manner (more on that later), there were still question marks over her in-ring capabilities. She blew all those doubts away in an impressive manner at the grandest stage of all – WrestleMania.<br></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Asuka’s Streak Comes To An End</strong></h2>

<p><strong>Asuka</strong> had been built up as the biggest thing in wrestling and it seemed like she was well on the path to being the female counterpart of the <strong>Undertaker</strong> when she won the first ever <em>Women’s Royal Rumble</em>. She won every much until she faced <strong>Charlotte</strong> at <em>WrestleMania</em>.<br></p>







<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Shawn Michaels Returns To In-Ring Action</strong></h2>

<p><strong>Shawn Michaels</strong> was considered to have retired for good but it is said that you should never say never in wrestling (especially if Saudi money is involved). You might expect this to rank higher but the actual match was so-so and everybody had the same reaction – HBK should have stayed retired.<br></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Evolution: The First All-Women’s Pay-Per-View</strong></h2>

<p>2018 as a whole was a landmark year for women’s wrestling but if one moment had to be chosen then it would be the very end of the <strong>Evolution</strong> PPV where despite expectations it ended up being one of the more successful PPVs of the year proving once and for all that women’s wrestling is here to stay. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Carmella Becomes The Champion</strong></h2>

<p>This is listed here because given the year some of the mainstay women’s wrestlers such as <strong>Charlotte</strong>, <strong>Ronda Rousey</strong>, and <strong>Becky Lynch</strong> had, it is almost unthinkable that <strong>Carmella</strong> of all people not only won the <em>Women’s Money in the Bank</em> but actually cashed in to become the champ. </p>

<p>The jury is still out on this one as to whether it is successful or not but it was one of the defining moments of 2018. <em>SmackDown</em> lacked the heel who was both hated and had main-event capability and <strong>Daniel Bryan</strong> stepped up to fill the void when no one would have expected it. </p>

<p>We all knew this one was coming and yet when it happened, it felt heart breaking. <strong>Seth Rollins</strong> played a huge part in selling the turn but credit where credit is due, <strong>Ambrose</strong> managed to both look and talk the part though some of the things he said could have been handled better.</p>

<p><strong>John Cena</strong> and <strong>Roman Reigns</strong> were among the biggest names in wrestling at the start of 2018. With that in mind, <strong>Rollins</strong> battled for over an hour in this gauntlet match on RAW that included victories over Reigns and Cena. It showcased the wrestling prowess of one of the best wrestlers in the business today.</p>







<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Shane McMahon Gets Crowned As The Best Wrestler In The World</strong></h2>

<p>There were many worthy contenders for this title and <strong>Shane McMahon</strong> has made his contributions to the wrestling business but this was shocking and undeserving to say the least. Thankfully, WWE seems to have dropped the whole idea of late and have themselves taken multiple jabs at it.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Enzo Amore Tries To Hijack Survivor Series</strong></h2>

<p>If you have played the career mode in WWE 2K19 then you might be familiar of the part where your character hijacks WWE shows. <strong>Enzo</strong> tried to emulate that in real life but it didn’t quite have the same effect. If anything, him standing up on his chair in the second row and trying to get people to say his catchphrase fell flat and the only thing he gained was more embarrassment.</p>

<p>When we learnt that <strong>Rousey</strong>’s initial program was going to involve <strong>Stephanie McMahon</strong>, we were miffed but it gave us this awesome moment where Rousey proved without a shadow of doubt that she is one of the baddest women on earth. Seeing her cleanly lift <strong>Triple H</strong> and slamming him through a table was one of the eye-popping moments of 2018.</p>

<p>This might not seem like a big thing now given how often he wrestles but at the start of 2018, seeing <strong>Daniel Bryan</strong> wrestle again was only a wish. He not only returned but had some amazing matches with the likes of <strong>The Miz</strong>, <strong>AJ Styles</strong> and <strong>Brock Lesnar</strong> and is still going strong.</p>

<p>If 2018 had to be anyone’s year it most definitely has to be <strong>Becky Lynch</strong>’s. She was always expected to be in the shadow of Charlotte but in 2018 she broke free in a magnificent manner and it all began with her heel turn. Her transformation into <em>‘The Man’</em> has been one of the most refreshing things happening in wrestling right now.</p>

<p>We have to conclude our list on a sad note. In an era of fake moments and leaked spoilers, this genuine moment when Reigns announced he has Leukemia and relinquished his Universal Championship hit wrestling fans like a ton of bricks. </p>



<p>In a single moment <strong>Roman Reigns</strong> went from being the most booed wrestler to the wrestler who brought tears in even the most stone-hearted fan. We end this list hoping that one of the defining moments of 2019 is the Big Dog’s return.</p>
