WWE NXT Takeover returns to WWE programming after four months, and the 29th edition of the highly acclaimed PPV series comes back with ‘In Your House’ format that hasn’t been seen in 20 years.

In Your House specials were a staple of WWE programming in the late 90s, designed to tackle WCW’s short PPVs. This will be the first In Your House event since St. Valentine’s Day Massacre in 1999.

NXT doesn’t struggle to put a solid card for their Takeover events and the same can be said for this one as well. After NXT Takeover: Tampa was canceled, several feuds ended on weekly programming itself, leading to some exciting new rivalries for this event.

We look at the WWE NXT Takeover In Your House match card and give our thoughts and predictions on how the event will go down.

Event: WWE NXT Takeover In Your House
Date:
Sunday, June 7, 2020
Start Time:
7 ET/4 PT
How to watch?:
WWE Network

Finn Balor vs Damian Priest

Finn Balor’s temporary move to NXT UK didn’t go as planned due to the COVID-19 restrictions, as NXT UK Champion WALTER is stranded across the Atlantic Sea.

Balor returned to NXT and was immediately taken out by a mystery attacker, who turned out to be Damian Priest. Priest has been in the mix for the last few months, dueling with Keith Lee and Dominik Dijakovic.

The Prince was quite angered after Priest cost him his match against Cameron Grimes, which led to this Takeover encounter. Although there is not much at stake, the match should be fun with Balor being the most plausible winner in this bout.

Prediction: Finn Balor wins.

NXT North American Championship: Keith Lee(c) vs Johnny Gargano

Johnny Gargano had a lengthy rivalry with Tommaso Ciampa, which concluded last month in an empty building match. Post that, Gargano teamed up with his wife Candice LeRae, who now sports a completely new avatar in NXT.

Gargano and LeRae attacked Mia Yim, which led to Keith Lee making the save and eventually challenging Johnny Wrestling for a match at the event.

Gargano will look to become the first 2-time North American Champion, while Lee will be eyeing to continue his dominant run in NXT so far. All things considered, Lee needs to be in possession of that strap for a little while longer.

Prediction: Keith Lee retains.

Tommaso Ciampa vs Karrion Kross w/ Scarlett Bordeaux

While Gargano and his wife went after the North American Champion, Ciampa got himself ambushed by yet another vicious couple. The debuting Kross went straight after the former NXT Champion and challenged him to a match at the event.

Ciampa has promised to stay in NXT for the rest of his career, which will require him to play the veteran role and elevate debuting stars like Karrion Kross.

Kross has an interesting gimmick and a lot of faith is being shown in him by the NXT management. With Bordeaux at his side, the duo is looking to takeover the brand, and the process begins at the Takeover.

Prediction: Karrion Kross wins.

Triple Threat Match | NXT Women’s Championship: Charlotte Flair(c) vs Io Shirai vs Rhea Ripley

This match reeks of an abundance of talent, with three of the finest performers on the WWE roster taking part in this triple threat encounter. Ripley returned a few weeks ago, making the save for Shirai after her loss against Flair.

Flair is currently working over-time, appearing on all the three brands. Ripley and Shirai have a long history, with the duo being the finalists of the second Mae Young Classic event.

It is quite difficult to predict the winner of this matchup, as all the three stars have equal right to call themselves the champion. Flair needs to move back to the main roster while Ripley just lost the title, which makes Shirai the top candidate.

One thing which won’t be difficult to predict is the quality of this match-up, which is bound to be exceptional.

Prediction: Io Shirai wins.

NXT Championship: Adam Cole(c) vs The Velveteen Dream

Most of the IYH main card have big betting favorites, but Adam Cole (-189) vs Velveteen Dream (+135) actually has some drama, according to SportsBettingDime.

With the stipulation that, if Dream loses, he can’t challenge for the title again while Cole holds it, some see the belt changing hands. But it’s more likely that Cole maintains his long-running status as champ and that Dream heads to the WWE’s next level.

William Regal also announced a special location for this matchup, which could be an indication of a cinematic encounter between the two stars. WWE has been successful in that format in recent times and will help to elevate this encounter.

Prediction: Adam Cole retains.
