Adam Cole Becomes The Longest Reigning WWE NXT Champion

Adam Cole has now held the WWE NXT Championship for a year, becoming the longest-reigning champion in the title’s history.

Cole became the NXT Champion when he beat the former champion, Johnny Gargano, at NXT TakeOver: XXV.

Cole, who is the leader of the faction The Undisputed Era, took to Twitter to commemorate and reminisce on his reign.

“I freakin’ did it boys. . . WE did it,” wrote Cole, acknowledging and tagging the other members of the Undisputed Era.

“365 days as NXT Champion,” he continues. “THE GREATEST NXT Champ of all time. Party hats and champagne galore.

He went on to say that, as the NXT champion, he had never settled or gotten comfortable.

“But there are certain days where you have to sit back and smell the roses. Today is one of those days,” he continues.

Cole’s record-breaking reign as NXT Champion was also acknowledged by WWE who tweeted out their congratulations on their official Twitter account.

The NXT Championship debuted in July 2012 and was won by Seth Rollins in an elimination championship. Cole is the 16th NXT superstar to hold the NXT Championship.

Cole is set to defend the NXT Championship against Velveteen Dream at the next NXT TakeOver event, NXT TakeOver: In Your House. The event is set to take place on June 7 at Full Sail University in Florida.
