Sammy Guevara made his return to AEW programming this week after being away from the show for almost a month.
The Inner Circle member was suspended after his comments on Sasha Banks came to light on Twitter last month. Guevara was suspended for sensitivity training while his salary for the month was donated to the Women’s Center of Jacksonville.
Guevara returned in a mask, helping out Chris Jericho and Jake Hager in the main-event matchup against Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy. As Luchasarus went to deliver a Chokeslam to Jericho, Guevara, jumped on the apron and hit Luchasaurus with Jericho’s baseball bat. This led to Jericho hitting the Codebreaker and picking up the victory.
Guevara, being referred to as indie wrestler ‘Serpentico’, delivered a Shooting Star Press, before unmasking to reveal himself. He joined his buddies in beating up the babyfaces, before Best Friends and Orange Cassidy made the save.
Guevara will make his in-ring return next week, as the Inner Circle will take on the team of Best Friends, Orange Cassidy, Luchasaurus, and Jungle Boy in a 5-on-5 tag team matchup.
Guevara’s comments didn’t go down well in the wrestling circles, but he privately and publicly apologized to Sasha Banks. There were calls for Guevara’s termination, but AEW decided to dish out a lighter punishment for his remarks from 2016.
