The rivalry between the Young Bucks and FTR finally came to a head at Full Gear, where the Bucks beat FTR to become the AEW Tag Team Champions.
The match, which many have mentioned is a dream match, between Matt and Nick Jackson and Dash Harwood and Cash Wheeler, has been building up for years – even as the two teams were in different promotions ensuring their paths didn’t cross.
There were several stipulations put in place that raised the stakes for this match beyond just being for the Championship or just the title of the “better tag team.”
If the Jacksons had lost the match, not only would they have lost the Championships but they would have been banned from challenging for the titles ever again.
FTR’s mentor, Tully Blanchard had been banned from ringside. Blanchard had been responsible for injuring Matt Jackson by hitting him on the knee with a chair two weeks ago.
In the end, it was the “injured” but medically cleared Matt who hit a superkick on Wheeler to gain a pinfall and win the Championships.
This is the first time that the Young Bucks have held the AEW Tag Team Championships.
