The New York Times has just released its Best of 2020 list for TV shows, movies, and performances. Included on the list is AEW’s Le Dinner Debonair segment.
The list, which is compiled by Pulitzer Prize-winning critic Wesley Morris, particularly took note of MJF’s performance during the segment.
“Some weeks the athleticism at this professional wrestling start-up (AEW) is more exciting than anything happening in Vince McMahon’s empire,” begins Morris.
“An no one in the WWE has this kid’s (MJF) combination of diction (Julliard by way of Long Island), intensity or cheesiness, either,” he continues.
Morris ends by saying that MJF and Jericho’s rendition of Me and My Shadow might be less than spectacular but credited MJF for making the whole thing memorable.
MJF responded to being included in the New York Times list by Tweeting a touching story about his recently deceased grandpa who loved music and the New York Times.
According to MJF, his grandpa loved the Me and My Shadow performance, much like the New York Times did. He then ended the Tweet, in his heel character.
“So basically what I’m getting at is Chris, Me, and the spirit of my Poppa would like to say. . . EAT SHIT TURDS.”
