AEW Pulls Joey Janela From Upcoming Shows Following COVID-19 Exposure

Both AEW and WWE have been forced to step up their safety precautions surrounding COVID-19 in recent weeks and this includes allowing stars who have been exposed to the virus to self-isolate.

WWE stars Nia Jax, Shayna Baszler, and RETRIBUTION were all given 14 days to isolate earlier this month, while AEW has recently announced that Joey Janela has been pulled from the upcoming events.

The announcement comes after it was revealed that Janela had been exposed to fellow wrestlers who have since tested positive for the virus.

The Bad Boy was replaced in his number one contenders match with Kenny Omega last night and show and the promotion sent out the following statement following the news.

“AEW and Joey Janela learned today that he had exposure to a known COVID-19 positive person at an independent show. For that reason, we are pulling him until such time as he is cleared to return consistent with our protocols.”

It was reported that several wrestlers who worked The Collective later tested positive for COVID-19 and these were the stars that Janela was working closely with.

Kenny Omega wrestled Sonny Kiss on last night’s AEW Dynamite and this match saw the return of his cleaner gimmick, where he easily defeated Kiss. It was a match that was over quickly with a One-Winged Angel after Kiss stepped in for Janela.
