AEW’s Shawn Spears Offered Coaching Role in WWE Before His Release

During an interview with WrestleTalk, Shawn Spears told Louis Dangoor that he had been offered a coaching role in WWE before he was granted his release.

Spears was signed by WWE under the name Tye Dillinger during 2013-2019, he asked for and was granted his release in February 2019. He then debuted for AEW during the Double or Nothing pay-per-view in May of the same year.

Spears also owns and operates the Flatbacks Wrestling school with his friend and current WWE wrestler, Tyler Breeze. The WrestleTalk interview was conducted with Breeze present and they were asked about their experience co-owning the school.

It was when he was talking about training new wrestlers that Spears brought up the fact he was asked to be a coach in WWE.

“We were relied on a lot to help younger talent,” said Spears about his and Breeze’s time at the WWE Performance Center.

“We enjoyed helping younger talent,” he added. “I was asked to be a coach on numerous occasions before I left.”
