Sammy Guevara was previously reported to be in hot waters for his derogatory comments about the current WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Sasha Banks.
The #SpeakingOut movement has brought a plethora of wrestlers under the radar for their misconduct with women over the years and Guevara hasn’t been spared by any means.
While Guevara did apologize to Banks for his past comments, it appears that AEW isn’t interested in settling the matter with just an apology.
In a public statement, AEW announced that Guevara has been suspended without pay until further notice. The young athlete has agreed to undergo sensitivity training and his salary will be donated to the Women’s Center of Jacksonville.
It is to be noted that Guevara also received huge backlash for a derogatory racist “joke” immediately before his suspension.
“AEW insists on doing our part to create a world of understanding and respect for humankind. We therefore strongly condemn the extremely offensive and hurtful words of Sammy Guevara. As such, effectively immediately, Sammy is suspended without pay until further notice.”
“Sammy has agreed to undergo extensive sensitivity training, and upon completion, his future status within the company will be re-evaluated. During his suspension, his salary will be donated to the Women’s Center of Jacksonville.
It remains to be seen how AEW will explain Guevara’s suspension on Dynamite. The Spanish God has been an intrinsic part of every show as a key member of The Inner Circle.
