AJ Styles held the WWE Championship for more than a year before he was defeated by Daniel Bryan last week on SmackDown Live, which meant that Styles was forced out of Survivor Series and Bryan took his place.
Styles wasn’t part of the show but he could have been if WWE had written it into the script but the former Champion didn’t appear and his status with WWE has now become a hot topic for the WWE Universe.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com recently reported that WWE and AJ Styles are currently negotiating because Styles is hoping to be given a contract with limited dates, much like the one that Randy Orton is currently enjoying.
Survivor Series was the first WWE Pay-per-view that The Phenomenal One missed since his debut in WWE back in January 2016 and it appears that he is now looking to have much less time on the road.
Styles has four young children and has noted a number of times that he wants to be able to spend more time with them before they’re too old, but his current contract keeps him on the road for 300 days a year.
WWE is pushing for Styles to sign a new three-year deal in the coming weeks since his contract is up soon, but the fact that he lost the WWE Championship last week, is seen as an update that the negotiation hasn’t been going well.
Hopefully, WWE and Styles are able to come to an agreement where both parties are happy so that the former Champion is able to play a huge part in next year’s WrestleMania since reports suggest that he could be facing Brock Lesnar.
