Austin Theory came out to address Pat McAfee on the September 15th 2023 episode of SmackDown, before The Rock made his first WWE appearance in four years to shut Theory down, belittle him on the mic and then hit a People&#8217;s Elbow and Spinebuster on the former Champion. 



It was a segment that later went viral all over the world and pushed Theory as a top star in WWE, but whilst speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Theory revealed that the planned segment only came together at the last minute because The Rock arrived to the arena so late.

&#8220;We had an hour before the show, I get a call, and I end up going to Triple H’s office. He basically gives me the rundown of, ‘Hey, Pat McAfee’s coming back. We’re thinking, you go out there, you cut a promo, and then kind of get on him, and then we’ll have The Rock come out.’ &#8220;

We’ll tell you what you’re doing with Rock when he gets here.’ So I’m like, ‘Well, he’s not even here, this is crazy.’&#8221;
