The RAW after SummerSlam took place from Toronto, Canada, and the show was full of engaging moments from start to the end. One of the segments involved Canada’s very own Sami Zayn interacting with the NXT Tag Team Champions Street Profits.
In the segment, Zayn went on to bash the state of WWE and its fans, and was interrupted by Samoa Joe. Joe took offense to Zayn’s statements and challenged him to a match inside the ring. Joe made quick work of Zayn, and went on to cut a promo regarding Roman Reigns.
Joe was briefly presented as a babyface on RAW this week, after teasing a face turn last week when he helped Roman Reigns after his accident. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, this move was made to ensure Sami Zayn’s character is not cheered by his home crowd.
Zayn’s current gimmick of bashing the company and the environment won’t work well if the fans react positively to it, and hence WWE used Joe in a slightly different role.
WWE also continued the Rey Mysterio-Andrade feud this week on RAW, with the two competitors participating in a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match. Andrade emerged victorious over the former World Champion once again and established his supremacy.
There are speculations of both the superstars eventually participating in a Mask vs Hair match, however, Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer quickly denied those reports. He said that WWE is currently not heading in that direction with the two superstars.
He said that the company is planning a proper endgame for this rivalry, but a Hair vs Mask match is completely out of the picture. Rey Mysterio’s charm and his merchandise sales will be severely lost if he loses his mask, and Andrade losing to Mysterio is not a great decision at this stage of his career.
