Drew McIntyre has been out of action since his first-round defeat to Ricochet in the King of the Ring finals. It was recently revealed that McIntyre wrestled Ricochet while being severely ill, and underwent a minor surgery a few days later. The extent of the injury or information about the illness is still unknown.
Fightful recently reported that Drew McIntyre is set to return quite soon, and is internally listed by WWE for a mid-September return. McIntyre was absent from RAW this week, and according to another report by PWInsider, McIntyre was not present backstage as well.
This could be an indication of McIntyre not being 100% and unfit for in-ring action. However, WWE has been doing a good job of keeping the returns as a surprise, and it could be the case for Drew. Since its mid-September already, McIntyre could possibly return on SmackDown Live.
WWE has seen several wrestlers join the roster once again, as Luke Harper and Rusev returned to WWE programming this week, while Authors of Pain announced their return in a pre-taped promo. Tamina Snuka is also set to return to WWE Live Events quite soon.
With the Draft coming up, WWE will look to have two separate rosters and that means a lot of names will return to WWE programming in the coming weeks.
Rusev’s return on RAW was apparently kept a surprise backstage, similar to how Luke Harper’s return was booked during Clash of Champions. Rusev lives three hours away from Knoxville, and drove straight to the arena for his segment on RAW.
With the influx of backstage rumors and potential spoilers, WWE has to be lauded for keeping such returns a surprise from leakers on the internet. The Draft will see more surprises for the fans, and hopefully, WWE keeps it a secret!
