Former WWE Superstar Batista has a new film project lined up.
Deadline is reporting that Batista, under his “real name” Dave Bautista, will be staring in a science fiction/fantasy movie called “Universe’s Most Wanted.”
The movie will be directed by Brad Peyton and is slated to begin production in the spring of next year.
According to Deadline, Batista will be playing an “intergalactic peacekeeper”. The movie will see life in a small town being upended when a spaceship carrying the universe’s most wanted and dangerous criminals crashes nearby.
Bautista’s intergalactic peacekeeper will have to team up with the son of the town’s sheriff to keep the alien prisoners from escaping into the wider world.
This is not the first time that Bautista will be playing an “alien” peacekeeper, as one of his biggest roles since leaving wrestling for acting is still Drax the Destroyer in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise which is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
He’s also had parts in several other sci-fi franchises such as “Riddick” and “Blade Runner 2049”. 2021 will also see Bautista play a reinvented version of Glossu Rabban Harkonnen in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune.
Though Batista retired from professional wrestling last year, he was announced as part of the class of 2020 for the WWE Hall of Fame. The ceremony, however, has been postponed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
