This week’s episode of WWE NXT was headlined by a brutal Ladder Match featuring Io Shirai and Mia Yim.

The Survivor Series invasion continued as Rhea Ripley (captain), Tegan Nox, Jessamyn Duke, and Candice LaRae were found beaten up backstage and outside the arena. Dakota Kai promised to have Mia’s back.

During the course of the match, Shirai busted Yim open with a springboard missile dropkick. Trainers ran down to check on Yim as the ring got covered in blood.

Kai showed up to check on her mate at ringside but Shirai wiped out both of them with an iconic moonsault. Shirai went up the ladder when Kai confronted her with a powerbomb and rolled Yim back into the ring.

Just when victory seemed certain for the babyfaces, NXT UK women’s champion Kay Lee Ray appeared outta nowhere and launched Kai into the steel steps and tipped Mia off the ladder. The injured star came crashing down through another ladder that had been previously set up between the apron and barricade.

Shirai seized the opportunity – she quickly climbed the ladder and grabbed the briefcase, thus earning Team Baszler an advantage over the order of entry at NXT TakeOver: WarGames.

Post-match, Shirai, Ray and Bianca Belair celebrated in the ring. NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler was about to join her teammates when suddenly SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley blindsided her with a steel chair.

It’s interesting how WWE is handing the booking for both WarGames and Survivor Series simultaneously. The WWE Universe has praised the build-up so far, noting how intriguing the storytelling has been in sharp contrast with previous years.

It will be interesting to see whether SmackDown can protect its territory from RAW and NXT come Friday.
