New Day’s Big E did an interview with Fox Sports recently where he nixed the idea of showing up on Raw to support fellow New Day members Kofi Kingston and Xavier Wood.
While E was adamant that they were still a “brotherhood” and friends in real life but stated that the onscreen split was real. He also noted that he was happier it happened due to the draft rather than a dramatic “breakup” as it will allow for a reunion down the road.
“We still have out podcast. We still have a few other projects in the works that I’m really excited about, with us as a collective,” said Big E. “So, it’s still the New Day. We’re still together. We’re just separated by shows.”
During last week’s episode of Raw, Big E was featured onscreen at the ThunderDome during Kingston and Wood’s match. However, he nixed the idea of “showing up” on Raw or other members of the New Day showing up on SmackDown.
“If next week I’m showing up at Raw or wearing a Lucha mask and pretending that I’m not Big E on Raw, and I’m teaming with them – and they’re finding ways to get involved in my stuff – I feel like we’ve detracted from this really emotional profound segment,” said Big E.
Part of E’s determination to now forge a more distinct identity away from the New Day is new theme music and some changes to his gear.
“There will be some change, I’m sure at some point,” said Big E.
He mentioned that, while he would not stop “goofing off” he would tone it down to remind people of his singles accolades: second-longest reigning NXT Champion in history and Intercontinental champion.
He also noted that he had some opponents he was keen on facing as a singles wrestler on SmackDown, including the father and son duo of Rey and Dominik Mysterio.
He also noted that he had heard the clamor for him to go up against the “Tribal Chief” Roman Reigns but didn’t commit to the idea, merely stating that Reigns was “killing it” with this new character.
