Kevin Owens made a shocking heel turn on WWE Champion Kofi Kingston this week on SmackDown Live.
Owens joined The New Day as the faction’s latest babyface honorary member last week after Big E was sidelined with injury. Vowing to stick with Kofi and Xavier Woods at all times, KO quickly transformed himself into Big O. However, it didn’t take Owens long to turn heel.
Post-Tuesday’s show, Big E took severe jabs at the heel Owens on Twitter.
Prior to WrestleMania 35, it was speculated that WWE would be breaking up The New Day by turning Big E heel. While fans are still dissatisfied with Owens turning heel so early on, the fact that Big E is still a babyface and will continue to be so after his return is a lifesaver for many.
It appears that WWE didn’t have any second choice other than turning Owens heel last night.
Kingston was initially slated to defend the title against Daniel Bryan at Money In The Bank. However, The Planet’s Champion’s recent medical hiatus eventually forced Vince McMahon‘s hand causing Owens to turn heel and thereby booking “the parasite” in the title picture on May 19.
