The first-ever AEW Women’s Champion Riho’s return to AEW has been confirmed.
During this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Riho’s return was promoted with a graphic announcing that she would be competing at the AEW Women’s Eliminator Tournament.
The AEW Women’s Eliminator Tournament, which was announced on last week’s episode of Dynamite, will have 16-women competing for a chance to become the number 1 contender for the AEW Women’s World Champion.
Riho was the first woman to hold that championship; she dropped it to Nyla Rose who in turn dropped it to the current champion, Hikaru Shida.
Riho will be returning for the first round of the Women’s World Championship Eliminator Tournament. Her opponent for the round will be Serena Deeb, who is currently the NWA Women’s World Champion.
Riho had last wrestled for AEW in February when she dropped the championship to Rose. She had effectively been stuck in her home country of Japan due to travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is being reported that Riho’s return to the USA will be more or less permanent and she will be living in the US and be made a full-time member of the AEW roster.
