Braun Strowman is to reportedly challenge Seth Rollins for the WWE Universal Championship next month at Clash Of Champions.
Strowman’s feud with Bobby Lashley didn’t do him much good and WWE needed to find a way to get the big man back on the main event scene.
This week on Monday Night RAW, The Monster Among Men showed up at the very last moment and saved Rollins and Ricochet from a second round of brutal beatdown at the hands of The O.C. The crowd went wild and Strowman (arguably) got the biggest pop of the night!
During a recent interview with Gorilla Position over SummerSlam weekend, Braun revealed that WWE isn’t quite ready to crown him Champion, but at the same time, he’s running out of opponents.
“The powers that be aren’t ready for [me to be Universal Champion]. One of the biggest things is that I’m running out of opponents; I’ve beat everybody. That’s the biggest thing, I feel like. Where we’re at right now, we’re trying to get some other guys more established because, let’s be for real, not everybody can match up to what I’ve done and what I’m capable of doing. So I feel like that’s part of the biggest thing – just timing-wise, everything happens for a reason in this business. Everything that you [see] going on right now has literally been in works for a year, two years already. So we plan so far ahead.”
Strowman had earlier gotten a couple of Universal Title shots against Brock Lesnar but WWE ended each of such storyline with The Monster falling short every single time.
“Honestly, as well, I don’t feel like where I’m at with my character [gives him reason to] need a title. I get some, if not the, biggest reactions when I come out anywhere in the world with just me. And a title, without a doubt, is what I want to hold. The Universal Title is the most prestigious thing in the WWE – absolutely, to represent the company in that way [would be great]. But if I don’t need it, I don’t need it.”
It’s true that the level on which Strowman is and has been for the last couple of years, doesn’t require him to hold a title. He is one of the biggest draws and can switch between a heel and babyface character with ease.
The Monster getting his hands on the most-coveted Universal Title is not a question of if but when.
