Britt Baker is arguably the biggest star in All Elite Wrestling’s Women’s Division and has received the most screen-time among all the wrestlers, even greater than the current champion, Hikaru Shida.
Baker turned heel for the first time in her career after joining All Elite Wrestling and has excelled in the douchey role, even playing entertaining roles during her injury in 2020.
Baker revealed that current AEW World Champion, Kenny Omega, was the person responsible behind her heel turn. Initially, Baker was skeptical, but she went down with it and eventually found great success.
“It was Kenny Omega, Kenny ‘The Cleaner. “He had the idea of turning me heel. I remember I was in the ring one day just training, he came up and talked to me about it. He’s like ‘what do you think about being a heel? We don’t really have any heels and, you know, maybe this would work.’”
“And I just remember saying ‘I’m down to do anything’ and I will always try anything. But at that point in my wrestling career I had never been a heel, [not even] once in my life. So, just like my whole experience of AEW? I was just kind of getting thrown into the fire, let’s go, let’s see if it works. And it did.”
Omega is credited with several of the signings in the Women’s Division due to his experience in Japan and has closely worked with top stars of the division, including former AEW Women’s Champion Riho.
Baker is currently engrossed in a rivalry with Thunder Rosa and will take on the former NWA Women’s Champion at Beach Break next month.
