Bruno Sammartino Funeral Held In Pittsburgh, “Bruno” Documentary Clip

Longest reigning WWE Champion and wrestling legend Bruno Sammartino was laid to rest in Pittsburgh at 10 A.M. on April 23, 2018. The funeral took place at St. Sebastian Church and the main eulogies were from Larry Richert, a Pittsburgh news reporter who knew the wrestling icon well and Dr. Frank Costa.

A friend of Sammartino, Joe Babinsack said, “They had us all laughing and crying.”

According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Richert had earlier noted on Saturday that the documentary on Bruno that aired on KDKA in Pittsburgh would be released in some form.

CEO of WWE, Vince McMahon and his wife and Administrator of the Small Business Administration in the Trump Administration, Linda McMahon along with their daughter and Commissioner of Monday night Raw, Stephanie McMahon were present at the funeral. Stephanie read a very touching speech penned by her husband, COO of WWE, Paul “Triple H” Levesque who missed the funeral in order to discharge his duties in Saudi Arabia prior to the Greatest Royal Rumble.

It is reported that Dominic DeNucci, a friend of Sammartino’s for more than 50 years, having met the wrestling great when they were the two top babyfaces on a tour of Australia, along with protégé Larry Zbyszko and Shane Douglas also attended the ceremony. Sources claim that former Pittsburgh Steeler Franco Harris attended the visitation over the weekend.

WWE Network aired the new “Bruno” documentary with older footage of WWE Hall of Famer Bruno Sammartino discussing his early beginnings in bodybuilding and pro-wrestling.

Bruno Sammartino (1935 – 2018), the longest reigning WWE Champion at 2,803 days and also the longest combined reigning champion at 4,040 days is perhaps the greatest wrestling figure to have ever embraced the sport.
