All Elite Wrestling held a free rally on Tuesday near TIAA Bank Field at Parking Lot J near Gate 1 in Jacksonville, Florida – on the same evening WWE taped SmackDown Live just two blocks away at the Jacksonville Memorial Arena.
Three Modern Era WWE names were officially announced as part of the production/talent signings – Chris Jericho, PAC (formerly Neville in WWE) and Billy Gunn.
Jericho and PAC are going to be part of the upcoming roster while former WWE Tag Team Champion Gunn was confirmed to be the company’s first producer.
Britt Baker, MJF, Joey Janela, Penelope Ford, Frankie Kazarian, Christopher Daniels, and Scorpio Sky were announced as the official signings so far.
Ex-WWE stars Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks will serve as the Co-Executive Vice Presidents of the promotion with Tony Khan taking up the President’s role. Former WWE ring announcer and wife of Cody, Brandi Rhodes is the Chief Brand Officer of AEW.
During the press conference, AEW also announced its first event “Double or Nothing” that takes place on May 25 at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas.
It would be interesting to see what other announcements AEW has in store in the coming weeks.
A second event in Jacksonville, Florida is also scheduled with a large proportion of the revenue going to the victims of gun violence. The date and venue of the event is yet to be declared.
As reported earlier, WWE was to monitor the AEW rally due to fear of some sort of “invasion” during SmackDown Live. However, everything went smooth and AEW stayed on its track.
Billy Gunn’s inclusion in AEW has raised a lot of eyebrows for his name wasn’t even in the rumors that broke the IWC back in October. This surprising revelation is definitely going to play a big role in how WWE deals with Superstars/legends who have their contracts coming up, for instance, Hall of Famer Jim Ross.
