Cody Abandons Attempt to Gain Trademarks to WCW Event Titles

Cody has reportedly abandoned his efforts to gain two trademarks he filed last year due to opposition from the WWE.

Back on October 19, 2019, Cody had files trademarks for two phrases that were associated with World Championship Wrestling, “Slamboree” and “The Match Beyond”.

Then, on September 24, this year, WWE issued a note of opposition for Cody’s filings stating that they had acquired the rights to intellectual property that had been owned by WCW when they purchased the company back in 2001.

Heel By Nature has acquired a copy of the opposition papers filed by WWE to Cody’s trademark filings.

Following WWE opposing his filings, Cody had until October 31, 2020, to state his case as to why his trademarks should be granted. However, on October 28, through his attorney Michael E. Dockins, he filed an express abandonment request.

With the express abandonment request, Cody has officially withdrawn his trademark filings for “Slamboree” and “The Match Beyond”.

WWE will now retain ownership of the two terms and they have dismissed their opposition request.
