Cody Rhodes and MJF were involved in a brutal segment on the latest edition of AEW Dynamite. As promised, Cody was on the receiving end of 10 whiplashes as part of MJF’s stipulation for their match at AEW Revolution. The Co-Executive Vice President took his shirt off and accepted 10 lethal lashes with a leather strap to bring the show to a close.
Wardlow delivered one of the blows to The American Nightmare as The Salt of The Earth whipped him 9 times, each lash being harder than the previous one. The heels thereafter landed a low blow and escaped through the crowd.
The intense angle had a heated impact in the arena as a particular fan jumped out and attacked MJF. However, things didn’t work out well for him as he was easily overpowered by MJF and Wardlow.
It’s worth noting that the final lash from MJF was across Cody’s “Dream” tattoo. The tattoo is actually a tribute to his father, late great “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes.
The segment stirred plenty of emotions among the fans who took to social media to shower praises on Cody and the overall booking as a whole.
AEW did deliver old-school storytelling through this segment which is essentially what pro wrestling fans have been yearning to see for a long while.
At this point, it is safe to assume that no matter the stipulation, Rhodes would essentially emerge victorious over MJF at Revolution unless AEW decides to extend the highly-personal storyline to give the same a more meaningful touch. At Full Gear, MJF betrayed Cody and cost him the AEW World Title match, thus kicking off the rivalry, and although it’s been almost 3 months already, things are just getting started between the two.
Rumors suggest that Cody’s victory over MJF in the near future would be a guaranteed way to make himself worthy enough for the AEW Championship once again.
