Cody Rhodes Talks Midcard Titles, What Makes a Title Important

Current TNT Champion and AEW Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes doesn’t believe in “midcard titles”.

Cody made this declaration in a Twitter exchange with a fan who questioned his pride in holding the TNT championship.

Cody had Tweeted about how proud he had been to successfully defend his TNT title during the most recent episode of Dynamite where the newly completed AEW TNT Championship was revealed.

“She’s a looker alright!” said Cody, referring to the TNT Championship belt. “My goal is to make it the most important and coveted belt of all time.”

In response to that Tweet, a fan asked Cody if the World Championship shouldn’t be “more important”. The fan seemed to be implying that Cody shouldn’t be so concerned with the TNT Championship but should be gunning for the “top prize”.

In response, Cody said that it was who wore a belt that defined it.

“I don’t believe in “Midcard” titles,” declared Rhodes.

Rhodes won the TNT Championship at the Double Or Nothing pay-per-view on May 23 after defeating Lance Archer to become the inaugural champion.

Mike Tyson then presented the title to Cody after the match. Since then, he has been defending the title weekly in open challenges from both AEW wrestlers and guest challengers from the independent scene. Cody’s last title defense was against Scorpio Sky, a few days ago.
