A contestant on the “Wipeout” reboot, which is hosted by John Cena, needed medical attention after completing the show’s obstacle course.
TMZ is reporting that a male contestant on the show was seen-to by the on-site emergency personnel after he went through the course last Wednesday. Paramedics were called in and he was taken to a local hospital where he passed away.
According to TMZ’s police sources, they had received a “cardiac arrest call” from the set a little before noon last Wednesday.
The contestant had experienced chest pains after he completed the “Wipeout” obstacle course and the on-site medics had already begun using a defibrillator on him.
Wipeout is a game show where male and female contestants attempt to successfully run an obstacle course in the shortest amount of time to win prizes. It had previously aired on ABC from 2008 to 2014.
The reboot will air on TBS and, while taping has begun, an airing date has not yet been released. Cena is a host on the show, along with Nicole Byer and sideline reporter Camille Kostek. He is also an executive producer on the show.
TBS issued their condolences and sympathy to the family of the deceased contestant.
