Curt Stallion to Challenge Escobar for WWE NXT Cruiserweight Championship

Curt Stallion is the number one contender for the WWE NXT Cruiserweight Championship.

This week’s episode of 205 Live was their 205th episode and it featured a Fatal 5 Way to determine the next challenger for the WWE NXT Cruiserweight Championship currently held by Santos Escobar.

Stallion beat Ashante “Thee” Adonis, August Grey, Tony Nese, and Ariya Daivari to earn a title shot against Escobar.

The Fatal-5-way was the only match to air on this week’s 205 Live. While Stallion emerged triumphant, there has been no word yet as to when he will be challenging Escobar for the Championship.

Escobar has held the WWE NXT Cruiserweight Championship since April, where he won the Interim Cruiserweight Title tournament after the then current champion Jordan Devlin was unable to defend his title due to travel restrictions put in place during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The term “interim” has since been dropped by WWE when referring to Escobar. It should be noted, however, that Devlin still has his championship belt, is still listed as a champion on the WWE website, and has been vocally calling Escobar a “fake” champion.

Stallion is a relative newcomer in WWE, just signing this October. He has been part of the 205 Live roster since then, but before signing he worked for Ring of Honor, Combat Zone Wrestling, REVOLVER, and a few other independent promotions.
