Daniel Bryan shocked his loyal fans within the WWE Universe this past week on SmackDown Live when he won the WWE Championship and then turned heel on AJ Styles.

It was thought that this could have been something that WWE opted to do to avoid Brock Lesnar vs AJ Styles once again, but according to The Wrestling Observer, Bryan has wanted to turn heel for a while.

The current WWE Champion has been one of the most popular stars in the WWE for the past four years, the WWE Universe was the main reason why he went on to become World Champion back at WrestleMania 30 and they then pushed for his return after he was forced to retire.

Bryan has always been close to his fans, but it appears that the star himself decided that a heel turn was best for business and WWE finally allowed him to execute this plan on SmackDown Live.

It was also noted on the Wrestling Observer that even though it appears that the company could be building towards Bryan vs Shane McMahon at WrestleMania, that isn’t actually the plan.

There is obvious tension between the two men since they once worked together but it is unknown whether or not they will collide before WrestleMania, but the plan is definitely not for them to have a match on the Grandest Stage Of Them All.

Bryan as a heel Champion now leaves WWE in an interesting predicament since the match between Brock Lesnar and Daniel Bryan at Survivor Series this weekend will be heel vs heel and a loss for Bryan this early in his title reign and so soon after his turn isn’t the way that he would have wanted his spell to begin.
