WWE has confirmed to proceed with Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia despite huge backlash from fans, US Senators and Superstars owing to the Khashoggi murder case.
WWE revealed the controversial decision as part of its Q3 2018 Results last week.
As per latest reports from PWInsider, it is now being confirmed that Daniel Bryan will not be travelling to Saudi Arabia for WWE Crown Jewel.
WWE has been advertising Bryan to go 1-on-1 with AJ Styles for the WWE Championship at Crown Jewel. The two men will have a face to face confrontation on this week’s episode of SmackDown Live.
Although there’s no official confirmation on Bryan’s status for the pay-per-view event in the Middle East, fans can expect to see him being written off by some kind of injury angle on SmackDown Live or being straight-out replaced by some other Superstar.
With just 4 days to go for Crown Jewel and the talent required to board the flight early, unless such “replacement” happens on Tuesday’s SmackDown, it becomes clear that Bryan is making the trip to Saudi Arabia to participate in the pay-per-view.
16-time World Champion John Cena and Daniel Bryan were earlier reported to have refused to work Crown Jewel if it took place in Saudi Arabia. After the public announcement of the decision, Cena didn’t change his status for the show and stood by his decision.
This led to WWE officially replacing Cena with Bobby Lashley in the inaugural 8-Man WWE World Cup that is scheduled to take place on November 2, 2018, at Crown Jewel.
Crown Jewel takes place from the King Saud University Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
