Daniel Bryan has not signed a new contract with WWE.
It appears that WWE isn’t too happy with Bryan because he is yet to sign a new contract. On Thursday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez discussed what The Miz told Bryan in his recent promo. Meltzer has been pursuing the matter in question and said the following about what Miz said in the promo on Tuesday night:
“You get that WWE writing. The fact is Daniel Bryan hasn’t signed his contract. If you watch that interview, it stands out like a sore thumb that he hasn’t signed that contract and they’re not happy.”
He continued, “Daniel Bryan, if he does go elsewhere – and he’s not, probably. There’s a lot of stuff that’s really weird going on. But if by some chance this year or next year or at some point he does go independent, he ain’t wrestling in high school gyms, bingo halls, and flea markets.”
“He’s gonna do probably 50-60 dates and they’re gonna be the big New Japan shows…He’ll be doing Ring Of Honor shows that probably will be drawing pretty well and he’ll be doing Arena Mexico [which is] drawing more people than any arena in the world right now.”
Although it’s still unclear what the “weird stuff” refers to, it is speculated that the expression aims at behind-the-scenes things going on in WWE or the promo from this week’s episode of SmackDown Live.
In that segment, The Miz and Bryan took “personal” shots at each other. The A-Lister told Bryan to allow his contract to expire so he could perform at the indies in front of dozen of people. That was followed up by a collage of baby photos on the titantron and audio of them crying.
If Bryan doesn’t sign a new WWE contract, which seems quite unlikely given the reunion of Team Hell No prior to Extreme Rules, the WWE Universe would have to say goodbye to what they have been waiting to see for years: Another Team Hell No Tag Team run.
