At UFC 252, Daniel Cormier fought his last match inside the Octagon, in a losing effort against Stipe Miocic. Now that the 41-year-old former Olympian is done with MMA, he could probably switch to pro wrestling.
During a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Cormier teased a potential move to Vince McMahon’s company and discussed how exactly he wants it to be.
“I’d love a Royal Rumble moment where I throw a dude into the ropes and I clothesline his ass over the top, or I dropkick somebody over the top rope,” Cormier said. “And I’ll take my bump and get thrown out.
This isn’t the first time that DC has been linked to WWE. Following UFC 226, Cormier was slated to fight Lesnar inside the Octagon but after The Beast’s retirement from UFC, DC was rumoured to come over to WWE for a singles showdown with the 3-time Universal Champion.
“Let me chase somebody down, clothesline him with a Bradshaw-Layfield clothesline from hell and eliminate somebody from the Royal Rumble, then throw me over the top. Pro wrestling? I’m all in.”
In the past, WWE had made attempts to secure Cormier’s signature and even held talks with him regarding the same. However, a failure to reach an agreement with WWE had time and again caused Cormier to extend his stay with UFC.
Now that Cormier is officially retired from the Octagon, WWE may want to rope him into their company once again.
“That’s not my retirement. That would be a vacation.”
It’s to be noted that FOX already wants Cormier at the announcer’s desk on Friday Night SmackDown while UFC wants to have him on their own commentary team.
Cormier could much likely show up at Royal Rumble or WrestleMania 37 next year, and this reignites the possibility of the former UFC Heavyweight Champion having a program with Lesnar under WWE’s roof.
