AEW Full Gear: Darby Allin is AEW TNT Champion

Darby Allin defeated Cody Rhodes at Full Gear to become the third-ever AEW TNT Champion.

Allin pinned Rhodes, who was the inaugural AEW TNT Champion and also the first two-time holder of the championship, to get the win.

After a show of respect from Rhodes, who handed the title to Allin and stated that he “deserved it”, the two were attacked by Allin’s rivals in Team Taz.

Taz walked out to distract the two, allowing Ricky Starks and Brian Cage to attack Allin and Rhodes. Will Hobbs then ran out to chase Team Taz off of Allin.

This is the first championship that Allin has held in AEW. He had previously challenged for the AEW World Championship in a losing effort against Jon Moxley.

Allin had also been part of the Inaugural Championship Tournament for the TNT Championship. He defeated Sammy Guevara during the quarterfinals of the tournament, before facing and getting beaten by Rhodes in the semifinals.

It should also be noted that this match had Rhodes being introduced by his full ring name “Cody Rhodes”. As noted in the last episode of Dynamite, Rhodes had gained the rights to the name after WWE canceled their attempt to file for the trademark.
