Darby Allin has been making headlines ever since he joined All Elite Wrestling since the 26-year-old has brought his own new brand of wrestling to the company and it led him all the way to an AEW World Championship match against Chris Jericho this week on Dynamite.
Jericho was only able to win the match after Jake Hager interfered on his behalf, even though Allin’s arms were taped behind his back for the best part of the match. In recent weeks in matches against Jimmy Havoc and Cody Rhodes, Allin has proved that he is fearless in the ring, which could be why WWE have already come calling.
In a recent interview with Uproxx, Allin revealed the reason why he turned down a deal with WWE.
“There’s a million guys there who are never going to see the light of day. It’s not worth it. So I was like, ‘I’m not even interested.’ I’m not the type of guy who wants to sit on the sidelines and say, ‘Gee, I’m just happy to be in WWE.’ I don’t give a f*ck.”
“My whole thing is I want to get out of wrestling sooner than later and go into film full time and direct my films that I’ve always wanted to direct, but now I’ve got more eyes on me, so they’ll be like, ‘Oh shit, it’s Darby and he’s making films. Let’s check it out.’ Even if they don’t know what the f*ck it’s about, they’re still going to check it out, you know what I mean,” he said via NoDQ.
Allin may have lost the World Championship match this week, but given that he only lost due to interference, it’s likely that he will be given another shot in the future. Allin is definitely one of the future stars of AEW.
