Dave Bautista To Quit “Guardians Of The Galaxy” Franchise?

Former WWE Superstar Dave “The Animal” Bautista has been quite vocal regarding the firing of director James Gunn from the “Guardians Of The Galaxy” franchise .

In a recent interview with Shortlist, Batista made it clear that he wants Marvel to follow Gunn’s script or else he is ready to ask the comic giant to release him from his contract.

“Nobody’s defending his tweets, but this was a smear campaign on a good man,” he said. “I spoke to Chris Pratt the day after it happened and he’s a bit religious so he wanted time to pray and figure it out, but I was more like: f*ck this. This is bulls**t. James is one of the kindest, most decent people I’ve met.”

The Animal is dead-serious about Marvel having Gunn’s script in the movie and if things don’t go in that direction, he is ready to leave the franchise.

Batista said, “Where I’m at right now is that if [Marvel] don’t use that script, then I’m going to ask them to release me from my contract, cut me out or recast me. I’d be doing James a disservice if I didn’t.”

Several members of the cast have in stood in Gunn’s corner but Batista has been the most outspoken regarding the issue in public.

Batista, who plays Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, debuted with his role for the first time in 2014 in “Guardians Of The Galaxy”. Since then, he has appeared in “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2”, “Avengers: Infinity War” and is also slated for “Avengers 4/ Avengers: Infinity War 2” and “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3”.

Bautista revealed that Gunn already had the script for “Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3”. A replacement director for the upcoming movie, due to shoot early 2019, has not been announced yet.

On Monday, The Animal took to Twitter and expressed his opinion on the matter.

Last week Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora) and Bradley Cooper (Rocket) were among the cast members of the “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise to sign an open letter asking Gunn to be reinstated into the franchise.

However, sources at Disney are of the opinion that it’s unlikely Marvel will rehire Gunn, despite the strong backlash from the franchise’s top cast members.

“I don’t think [it] will get him re-hired,” Bautista said. “But I hope it opens people’s eyes to James’ character.”
