Carmella defended her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Charlotte and Becky Lynch at SummerSlam on Sunday night and it was Charlotte who walked out with her seventh Women’s Championship after she stole the win from under Lynch’s nose.

Lynch had the match won until Charlotte snuck in and was victorious, which then led to an altercation between the two women where Lynch slapped the taste out of Flair’s mouth.

On the most recent episode of The Wrestling Observer, Bryan Alvarez explained that Becky didn’t actually turn heel on Sunday night, instead, she was acting as a babyface when she confronted Charlotte.

“In the match, Becky is beating up Carmella. She is hitting all of her moves. She has the match that she earned and deserved, she has it won and her best friend flies in and hits her with a move from behind and pins her.”

“In no universe was it out of character for Becky to finally snap when it happened. The fans went crazy when this happened, they chanted Becky’s name because the finish played into the storyline as the perfect way to screw Becky and make her a sympathetic character and then when Becky attacked her they went crazy.”

“It was all by design in the storyline. We shall see on Tuesday if you don’t believe me but it was not a heel turn.”

Charlotte is the current SmackDown Women’s Champion, but it will be interesting to see if Becky Lynch becomes her first challenger for that title heading into Hell In A Cell, or if WWE allow Carmella to have her rematch and remain a prominent part of the story as well.
