Did WWE Scrap Plans To Add A Third Person Into Universal Championship Match At Crown Jewel?

The news that Roman Reigns was forced to vacate the Universal Championship and walk away from WWE for an undetermined amount of time last week has caused quite the domino effect on the Universal Championship match at Crown Jewel on Friday since it has now been changed into a singles match between Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman.

This is Lesnar’s rematch clause after he lost the Championship to Reigns at SummerSlam, whilst Strowman has been given a second opportunity for the title since Lesnar invaded his Money in the Bank contract match at Hell in a Cell and cost him the chance at the title.

It was thought that because Strowman and Drew McIntyre had created an enticing storyline on WWE TV over the past few weeks, the best option for WWE would be to turn this into a triple threat match, something which Dave Meltzer recently discussed on The Wrestling Observer where he stated that McIntyre could be moved into the title picture in the future.

“I got the impression that there was talk of Drew McIntyre being fit in there at some point. It looks like Drew McIntyre is going to be the guy that they put against Strowman next which makes sense given the angle,” he said via Ringsidenews.

The likelihood now is that McIntyre will become involved in the match at Crown Jewel which will then lead to a triple threat match at Survivor Series, or McIntyre will challenge Strowman after he is able to overcome The Beast in The Middle East.

Strowman and McIntryre definitely have unfinished business and since WWE officials are reportedly hot on The Scottish star right now, a push into the title picture could be the most obvious plan.
