Dustin Rhodes To Retire If He Loses TNT Championship Tournament Match This Wednesday

AEW is currently holding their TNT Championship Tournament during Wednesday’s episodes of AEW Dynamite. The tournament will culminate during the Double or Nothing pay-per-view scheduled from May 23.

This coming Wednesday, two quarterfinal matches have been announced for AEW Dynamite; Dustin Rhodes vs Kip Sabian and Sammy Guevara vs Darby Allin. The winner of the Rhodes/Sabian match will be facing Lance Archer while the winner of the Guevara/Allin match will be facing Cody Rhodes.

Before his match, Dustin Rhodes has released an emotional voice message for his brother Cody, stating that if he loses to Sabian he is going to retire.

Rhode’s message was recorded on a video clip released by the AEW Twitter account as a build up to the next episode of “Road To The TNT Championship”. In the clip, Dustin is captured saying that he has been soul searching about whether or not he should still be wrestling.

“My soul searching has led me to this,” Dustin tells Cody. “This TNT Tournament is the most important thing I’ve done since wrestling you at Double or Nothing, hands down.”

“To be the first TNT Champions means every frickin’ thing you can possibly imagine to me,” continues Dustin.

Rhodes also admits that he understands that Sabian is “no joke” and declares that if he can’t beat him, then he will retire. No word yet if Dustin’s retirement will be made an official stipulation of the match but it does add a bit of drama to the events.

We will probably learn more during the release of the full episode of “Road To”. The next episode is slated to be released this Monday 7pm ET on the AEW YouTube channel.
