This week’s episode of SmackDown was quite the change of pace as the action began in the parking lot with Renee Young reporting that Elias had been hit by a car ahead of the show.
The driver of the car had fled the scene and was later found a few meters away and identified as Jeff Hardy. The narrative from WWE was that Hardy had been drunk driving at hit Elias before attempting to run away.
Hardy was then arrested by the local police and it was revealed that both Hardy and Elias were out of the IC Championship tournament, meaning that Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles should advance to the final.
Bryan was open to competing which lead to Adam Pearce announcing that there would a battle royal tonight to decide who would face Styles in the final of the tournament.
As part of the backstage segment, Drew Gulak and Jey Uso were able to make their WWE returns. Gulak reportedly left WWE a few weeks ago before signing a new deal recently.
Jey Uso has been out of action for the past few months after his brother Jimmy suffered a knee injury and kept him out of the Tag Team Championship picture as well.
