Elias Reveals That He Was Set for Two Huge WWE Matches Before Plans Were Scrapped

Elias recently made his return to WWE after a lengthy layoff following a pectoral tear, but The Drifter is already back in action with a match this weekend against Jeff Hardy at Hell in a Cell.

Elias was also able to sit down with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated where he talked about some of the biggest moments in his career. Elias was able to reveal two big matches that he was initially set to be part of.

Back in 2019, Elias was part of some interesting segments with both John Cena and The Undertaker and according to the man himself he was set to face The Deadman in Saudi Arabia before Goldberg stepped in.

Elias was also set to face John Cena at WrestleMania as part of a three-year running thing, but that match obviously couldn’t happen either.

“New Orleans, I’m in the mix with John and the Undertaker. The next year, I’m in there with John and the Undertaker again—John at WrestleMania, the Undertaker the night next on Raw. I was supposed to go on and face the Undertaker at the show in Saudi Arabia. That never ended up happening because of Goldberg, but that was supposed to be my match.”

“The year after was supposed to be myself against John Cena at WrestleMania in a three-year running story. Things obviously changed and that didn’t end up happening.”

Elias’ injury meant that he wasn’t part of last year’s WrestleMania, but if Cena is fit and prepared to return, then the match could go ahead at WrestleMania 37 instead.
