Aleister Black has reigned his division in NXT ever since April when he dethroned Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas in New Orleans, Almas has since been promoted to the main roster, whilst Black continues to be the measuring stick in NXT.

The former Champion has taken on the likes of Lars Sullivan and Tommaso Ciampa in recent months and it was the latter who dethroned Black on an episode of NXT last week, thanks to interference from Johnny Gargano.

Gargano inadvertently hit Black with his own Championship belt whilst the referee was knocked out of the ring before Ciampa was able to equalize to win his first singles title in WWE.

This feud is expected to continue leading into Black’s contractual rematch at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn in less than three weeks time, but it’s reported that the former Champion has recently joined the injured list.

Whilst there are no details about the injury at the moment, The Wrestling Observer is reporting that Black suffered a recent injury that forced him to undergo surgery and he could be on the sidelines for some time.

NXT is taped in advance which means that Black has a few weeks to recover before he is needed to be part of Takeover, but there could still be a way for him to be part of Brooklyn whilst injured if WWE books a much lighter match for him.

Given that his match in Brooklyn was announced as part of the most recent NXT tapings, it is unknown if Black will be able to make it to Brooklyn to fulfil this commitment since the severity of his injury hasn’t been discussed and his length of time on the sidelines hasn’t yet been confirmed.
