Darren Young was once part of Nexus and The Prime Time Players where he was able to become a Tag Team Champion, but was never pushed to his full potential on the main roster.

Young is best known as WWE’s first ever openly gay active WWE superstar and his last real storyline in the company centered around WWE Hall of Famer Bob Backlund who was looking to make Young “Great Again.”

Obviously, this was a storyline that didn’t take off and Young was a shock release from the company alongside Emma and Summer Rae in late 2017, which has allowed the former Tag Team Champion to concentrate on a career on the Independent Circuit over the past year, but he could be eyeing a return to WWE in 2019.

Young recently spoke to The Roman Show where he opened up about the fact that WWE were seemingly open to him making a return when he makes a decision about his future.

“Recently, I was just at WWE in L.A. and they invited me back with open arms. So, who knows? 2019, you may see me as an ambassador with the company. Just because moves aren’t being announced doesn’t mean moves aren’t being made,” he said via Ringsidenews.

WWE is currently gearing up for Royal Rumble and given that Young was a popular star with the WWE Universe throughout his run, it is thought that he would be a perfect addition to the match as one of their surprise entrants.

Of course, Young may not want to hurry back to the company after the way his career nosedived in the final few years, which could be why he is already looking to make waves in Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling first.
