Long-term WWE referee Mike Chioda made his All Elite Wrestling debut this week, officiating two matches on the show.
He made his debut in the TNT Championship encounter between Cody and Scorpio Sky, holding up the finalized design of the show’s secondary championship. Cody ended up defeating Sky and retained the title.
Chioda was interviewed backstage, which was interrupted by Chris Jericho. Jericho talked about their history together, and how he saved his job 18 years ago. Jericho said he brought Chioda to AEW and will expect him to be a fair judge in his main-event match against Orange Cassidy.
Chioda once again entered the Squared Circle for the main-event between Cassidy and Jericho, where Cassidy took the win.
The former WWE employee took away Jericho’s baseball bat during the match. A distraction led to Jake Hager hitting Cassidy and then Jericho hitting a low-blow on his opponent, but it wasn’t enough to keep him down.
Chioda was released from WWE in April after staying with the company for over three decades. Several WWE personnel made their debuts in different promotions in these past few weeks after their no-compete clause came to an end. AEW signed the likes of Matt Cardona and Taynara Conti prior to Chioda’s debut.
