Vince McMahon is the final person to rule all aspects of administration in WWE. The CEO supposedly ushered in a New Era this week on Monday Night RAW and SmackDown Live, but the final decisions still continue to be up to him and him only.
Former WWE writer Jimmy Jacobs recently appeared on Wrestling Observer Live to discuss how difficult it is to write for Vinny Mac.
“So, [you’re writing things going] ‘Will Vince gonna yell about this?’ It’s hard to know what he wants because things will change, and he’ll want changes. He’s certainly a unique character and some people like to blame Vince for all the bad stuff, I don’t know if that’s true or not. Certainly, I’ll give the devil his due: if you blame him for the bad stuff then you have to blame him for the good stuff.”
It’s true that although sometimes a few storylines fail to hit the expected mark (the most recent storyline being Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose), McMahon also pulls off highly successful ideas from time to time which is the reason why WWE is what it is today.
Jacobs was fired from the company for taking a selfie with his Bullet Club friends. Despite that, The Zombie Princess who currently works at IMPACT Wrestling still has enormous respect for Vince as he explained why the creative process would fail to work without The Chairman having the final say.
“The Vince factor is a huge part of writing RAW and SmackDown. Even if you took Vince out of the equation, it’s an extremely difficult task to come up with new ideas, concepts and new matches for 3 hours each week. But yeah, it’s difficult writing for Vince. The prevailing goal is “Is Vince going to like this?”
“The writers aren’t the shot callers, they’re the idea givers. There aren’t too many guys up top with the final say.”
