From The CEO’s Desk: How Vince McMahon Really Sees Roman Reigns In Comparison To Braun Strowman

WWE announced 16-time WWE Champion John Cena as a “free agent” in 2017 and since then, Roman Reigns has been rated as the next face of the company after Cena decides to retires from pro-wrestling or leaves for Hollywood full-time. Reigns further cemented his spot as the frontrunner for becoming the company’s next face after he defeated Cena in a dream match at No Mercy, 2017. However, in spite of WWE’s repeated push to Reigns to make him an ideal babyface, The Rock’s cousin has had a hard time struggling to get the WWE Universe behind him ever since 2015. It is to be noted that Reigns receives boos in every arena that he performs in, in spite of his babyface gimmick.

Braun Strowman, who has been in the spotlight since 2016’s brand-split, has risen to be one of the company’s top guys in a very short period of time due to his immense in-ring talent, size and prowess. Strowman has emerged to be an immense crowd favourite and is projected to be the company’s next top guy according to the WWE Universe.

Ringside News reports that Brad Shepard of claims that the CEO of WWE, Vince McMahon still has faith in Reigns despite booking the Samoan to lose the Universal Championship match at WrestleMania 34 and the Greatest Royal Rumble.

Shepard said,

“People were wondering, ‘is Roman Reigns still the guy in the eyes of WWE and Vince McMahon?’

“Of course, Vince is very high on Braun and I was told Vince has taken a personal interest in Braun’s success.

“But as for who ‘the guy’ is there’s been no indication internally that it’s no longer Roman Reigns.”

On May 6 at WWE Backlash, Roman won his match against Samoa Joe while Braun teamed up with Bobby Lashley to defeat Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn.

Noteworthy mention:  Strowman has been WWE’s hottest commodity since Great Balls Of Fire (2017), has got the crowd behind him and is hailed as the guy (babyface) to finally take the Universal Championship off Brock Lesnar’s shoulders. On the other hand, Reigns received the loudest boos at the 2018 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony after the winner of this year’s Ultimate Warrior Award, Jarius “JJ” Robertson announced during his acceptance speech that Roman is his favourite WWE Superstar.
