Hiromu Takahasi Wins Best of The Super Juniors, The Guerrillas of Destiny Win World Tag League 2020

New Japan Pro Wrestling held the finals of two of their annual big events, the Best of The Super Juniors Tournament and the World Tag Team League.

The 27th Best of The Super Juniors tournament was won by Hiromu Takahashi, who successfully beat El Desperado. This makes Takahashi a two-time winner as he had previously won the tournament in 2018.

Takahashi’s latest win, however, is not without controversy. His opponent, El Desperado, is a masked wrestler and during the match, his mask was badly torn. He eventually removed it, leaving himself unmasked, which is against tradition.

The other big winners of the night were the tag team Guerrillas of Destiny, consisting of Bullet Club members Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa.

The Guerrillas of Destiny were the winners of the 2020 World Tag League finals, also held yesterday. The two faced off against the team of FinJuice, Juice Robinson, and David Finlay.

Though the Guerrillas of Destiny are six-time holders of the IWGP Tag Team Championships, this is the first time they have won the World Tag League tournament. They were, however, helped by multiple distractions provided by their Bullet Club team mates.

The match ended after KENTA, who holds the IWGP US Title briefcase, came down and nailed Robinson with the briefcase, leading to him getting pinned.

By winning the tournament, the Guerrillas of Destiny have now earned the right to challenge for the IWGP Tag Team Championships currently held by the Dangerous Tekkers, Zack Saber Jr. and Taichi.

The 27th Best of the Super Juniors tournament was originally supposed to happen in May and June, but it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was then announced in October, that the tournament would be held from November 15 to December 11, with the finals occurring at the same time as those of the World Tag League tournament.
